Skin Resurfacing: The Key To Younger Looking Skin

What is skin resurfacing?

Skin resurfacing includes procedures that remove or injure your thin top layer of skin, the epidermis, while delivering heat to the dermis. This process creates “microinjuries” that stimulate the healing process and increases collagen and elastin production. You will be left with firmer, smoother skin.

How does skin resurfacing work?

OPUS Plasma is our skin resurfacing procedure of choice. OPUS combines radiofrequency and plasma to reinvigorate your skin’s natural collagen production. The radiofrequency heats the underlying layers of the dermis to boost collagen, while the plasma targets the superficial layer of the skin. The plasma creates tiny “microinjuries” to activate your healing process which increases collagen and elastin production.

What makes the OPUS Plasma different?

OPUS uses plasma that only treats a “fraction” of an area at a time, which leaves a portion of the skin free from injury. By doing this, the downtime post procedure is significantly reduced compared to traditional laser treatments.

What does the recovery look like?

Immediately post-procedure you should expect redness, minimal inflammation, and visual track marks from the path of the glide tip or focus tip. See picture below:

Days 1-3 post procedure you should expect redness, minimal inflammation, visible track marks, and a sandpaper-like skin texture. The redness and inflammation decrease significantly after days 1 and 2. The sandpaper-like texture will decrease with each day. It is important to keep your skin hydrated during this time to promote healing.

What do I do for aftercare?

  1. Wear SPF- look for the ingredient zinc oxide (which we all should be doing anyways!!)
  2. Keep skin moisturized– use a gentle mild moisturizer and drink plenty of fluids
  3. Wear a hat for the first few days post-procedure– SPF is great, but keeping your newly injured skin out of the sun is very important!
  4. Don’t pick and at peeling or dry areas– Your skin will not peel like it does post chemical peel, but it will feel dry and be flakey.
  5. Wait at least 24 hours to apply makeup– Makeup is dirty. Allow your skin time to heal the microinjuries before applying makeup!

What skin types can use the OPUS Plasma?

Unlike other skin resurfacing treatments, all skin types can use the OPUS Plasma. Each treatment is tailored to each unique patient, making this procedure beneficial for all skin types!
